The dis-ease of too much or too little or what brand of stuck am I?

I will literally do or not do almost anything so I never have to feel uncomfortable again. Most of us run from that feeling our whole life. We run away from feeling uncomfortable. We will do say or be almost anything so we don’t have to feel what is really going on. The interesting thing is that by running away and not feeling our feelings we are actually making them stronger.

It is that uncomfortable feeling that I am hiding from that is at the root of it. I may be uncomfortable physically, that gut feeling or I might be uncomfortable emotionally. I unconsciously say. I never want to feel that way again and I cover over the uncomfortable feeling one more time.

And the worst part of it is that our actions and lack of actions take us further away from the truly important things in life. I see it come in two main flavors & I call it the dis-ease of too much or too little.

Too much might look like

  • My job is so demanding and I am working 50, 60, or 70 hours a week

  • I am always thinking about the next 17 projects I will tackle and figuring everything out

  • I keep myself busy socially, I never have any alone time

  • I never put myself on my list as I am always taking care of other people’s wants and needs

and Too little

  • I never start anything, I procrastinate because I feel I don’t measure up or I just can’t do it

  • Overwhelmed with emotions – fill in the emotion of your choice

  • I don’t have permission from – fill in the blank, to move forward

  • I am not “fill in the blank” enough

And my favorite it looks like too much and results in too little – Oooooo a butterfly! I have amazing ideas but, I never get anything done because I am too busy dreaming up the next amazing idea.

Society tells us that some of these are better than others but the truth is it doesn’t matter what flavor you have because in all cases we are continuing to run away from ourselves. We continue to not allow time to listen to our thoughts and feelings. We are not living as our authentic self nor living our best life.

I personally used to have multiple ways that I used to keep myself occupied. I have been working on whittling down my list. I love this saying "eliminate the unnecessary so the necessary may speak". This is the mantra I use as I walk through my life that helps me whittle down my list. I know that everything I am and everything I want is already in my hands. It is about eliminating the things I don't need so the gems are visible to me and to people I encounter in life.
